In those programs it helps you a little more right? Not really, I like making things from scratch (pun intended). But that's the thing, you do have to make them manually. So with Scratch you can create those scenes manually and triggers manually, but you aren't forced to use one or the other. That's why I don't like Stencyl.

However, what do you mean “Scratch is more flexible”, but the other two have more features? With Scratch it is more like code rather than based on scenes (Stencyl) and objects and triggers (Gamemaker). I like GS, but before making a game I would like to explore my options and choose the best one. Sorry if this is the wrong place to put this and let me know where I should if it shouldn't be here, but I would like to know what the differences are between gamesalad, stencyl, and game maker (yoyo games).

You can make everything manually in Scratch whereas the pre-made scripts in the other two may be more “specialized”, but they are also more numerous, plus you can write your own code/scripts/blocks too unlike in Scratch in Gamemaker, can you do this in Stencyl too?ĭusty22 wrote:Scratch making more sense, well I definitely agree Scratch is very intuitive. Well Gamemaker and Stencyl in that sense sort of use drag and drop blocks/scripts to make code no? Just like Scratch? Scratch however contains only “building block” blocks. My only qualm is that the unlimited version costs quite a bit of money ($130, kinda silly for a personal license). Think of it as a scratch for advanced users. Construct 2, as I've mentioned countless times, is drag and drop, and it works extremely well for making games. I did use GameMaker once, but I rather prefer learning text-based languages.Wrong. Yay!ĬatsUnited wrote:The only drag-and-drop language is Scratch (other than Scratch Mods). There's also Alice, a 3D block-based program maker, though I haven't been able to use it because of it's hefty large download, and my 500 KB/s internet. swf files that can be used in Flash applications such as your web browser. (I think it's text-based way is in ActionScript?) Unlike SNAP!, however, it has an export tool to convert your projects into.

I think there is a graphical/GUI way (with dialogs and such), a block-based way, and a text-based way. Next I’m going to show you what these programs look like. Blue means the function is only available in one of the paid plans.

Stencyl has various ways of making objects. Stencyl vs GameSalad vs Construct 2 vs GameMaker Green indicates, the feature is included in the free and paid version. Also, it's web-based, so you can run it online, for free! It does not have any export feature, however. SNAP! is a block-based programming language like Snap - though you can control it similarly to as if it were a turtle sprite via the JS function block, which uses JavaScript syntax and is text-based.
